150 positions within the province’s education department are being cut. Education Minister Brendan Maguire sent a letter to teachers late last week explaining that the cuts will affect 47 positions through attrition and vacancies. The education department must meet the three per cent cost savings mandated by the province. In a social media post, Peter Day, the President of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, called the letter “vague”, saying the province should focus on reducing class sizes and violence and investing in more support services.
