Corkum Greek says there is “No Joy” in cuts to public service and funding

Lunenburg MLA Susan Corkum-Greek says there is no joy in any of the decisions made to cut funding and cutting the public service in last week’s budget. In a social media post Cokum-Greek says she is “a believer in the power both economically and socially of arts and culture, a lover of history and museums.” But she continued, she’s “also aware that raising taxes or cutting recent tax breaks is not an option right now. Too many people are genuinely struggling.” She says tough choices had to be made in identifying priorities for investment; namely, healthcare, education, infrastructure and social services. She says she is also “deeply aware” that cuts to the public service, which the province hopes to achieve by retirement and attrition, impact families and communities. She vowed to continue answering questions and emails from constituents on the impact the province’s deficit budget will have on residents and organizations.
