Canadians are feeling the squeeze of the high cost of living, and that’s putting a damper on summer plans. A new TD Bank survey shows that 35 percent of Canadians plan to spend less this summer, with 44 percent saying the high cost of fuel is putting the squeeze on travel decisions. Among those cutting back, 66 per cent say they are redirecting the money to everyday necessities like food, fuel and housing. But it's not all doom and gloom for the tourism industry or small businesses; 76 per cent of Canadians plan to travel within Canada, either in their own province or elsewhere. And it seems buying local is even more important to Canadians this year, with 79 per cent saying they intend to support local or Canadian businesses.
